Masonry Structure / Flue

Factory-Built Fireplace

Fireplaces and venting typically enclosed in combustible construction

Vented and terminated with listed and approved chimney systems and caps
Hearth Heating Appliance

Generally a listed system, but may be unlisted

May be freestanding or inserted in a masonry or factory built system

May have specified hearth/floor protection requirements and clearances

If inserted or connected into a masonry system or fireplace the appliance may rely on the masonry system meeting its applicable minimum required codes and standards
